Summary: Total junk 2007-11-10
Comment: The product crumbled in our hands the instant we took it out of the packaging. The ease and timing with which it disintegrated was almost comical. It didn't have a chance. Back it goes, and I will not be ordering a replacement.

Summary: AWOL: Styrofoam and Wood glue 2007-10-22
Comment: I ordered this deck box twice and both times it arrived broken in many pieces. In the first instance the box was wet and was dissolving. Two side panels and the bottom were broken apart and one leg was split. The second time, the box looked fine from the outside - but inside was even more broken. Both side panels were broken apart: the frame was splintered, the hinges busted off, slats were loose and hanging from the rails - plus 1/2 the hardware was missing. Both times, kindling.
If you go to Target and buy one in person - open the box in the store and check it. I do not recc. that you order this on-line and have it delivered. Yes, my boxes were handled roughly but the box is not padded adequately for the weight of its contents. There is no Styrofoam - just some thin foam wrap (1/8" thick) and hollow cardboard spacers.
In addition, if the box is mishandled at all the rather fragile connections between the rails, frames, legs and the side slats break apart. The side panels are made of sturdy tongue and grooved slats. Unfortunately, the frames and legs are very unsubstantial - 1"x1"s or similar. At the factory, very little wood glue was between these components. In addition, they used brads 1/2 the size of dressmaker pins - pins like in the old Sprint commercials "you can hear a pin drop." I did not receive one side panel that was whole - in fact 6 out of 8 were busted into 20 pieces or more. In my packages, the legs and rails themselves were also severely splintered, split and/or broken.
If the pieces were not broken in shipment, I think the deck box would be ok if you added some waterproof wood glue between the parts as you assembled it. I think getting all the pieces to your house unbroken is pretty unlikely however.
It is a shame too - it is lovely wood. With just a bit more care packing and some really cheap Styrofoam and for goodness sakes, wood glue, at least one may of been able to arrive at my house as intended.
Amazon as usual was very gracious about replacing the damaged items. After a second try I just asked for a credit.

Summary: Junk 2007-09-19
Comment: This item is a piece of junk. The packaging was good, but the quality was so bad that it arrived with broken pieces. It looks nice in the photos but is very poor quality. I returned it for a refund. I don't recommend purchasing this item.

Summary: Rugged and Easy to Assemble 2007-01-15
Comment: The storage box went together in under 10 minutes, and we have been using it ever since. It is an excellent way to store outdoor equipment during winter.
